About the Book

Her white coat hides a dark past, but his blazing touch makes her want to trade peril for passion.

Ice Queen. That’s Dr. Tiffany Hart’s nickname in the hospital, but when she meets red-hot new hire Dr. Ethan Clark she loses her cool. He’s arrogant, annoying, and stupidly handsome.

That’s okay. Frozen from a past filled with danger and betrayal, Tiffany is immune to charming men, even if they remember her favorite coffee and let her pick what to watch on TV.

Dr. Ethan Clark comes from a long line of famous doctors. Wanting to escape his legacy and forge his own path, he’s happy to transfer to Tiffany’s hospital. Especially when he lays eyes on the fiery redhead doctor assigned to train him.

Sure, she looks like she wants to punch him most of the time, but he can’t ignore the sparks between them so he vows to thaw her icy heart.

When Ethan and Tiffany are sent back to his home hospital and then to a medical conference at Disney World, they’re forced to share close quarters. And when Tiffany’s past finally catches up to them, they have to fight for their lives.

Can this prescription for disaster turn into happily ever after?

Paging Dr. Hart is a swoon-inducing, page-turning, medical romance book set in the Mercy Hospital world. Read if you like enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, slow-burn chemistry, and pulse-pounding suspense.

Chapter 1

Everyone is staring at me when I get the first mysterious text message. Because, of course, that’s when it would happen. Not when I’m home by myself. Not when I’m alone in my car or studying at the library.

Nope.

It had to be right then, with almost one hundred doctors looking at me with expressions that range from vague interest to frank boredom.

Each day at noon, the medical staff at Mercy Hospital gather for our educational conference. It’s part of the continuing education requirements to maintain our medical licenses.

In five minutes, it’ll be my turn to give the presentation–my very first time. Not to overstate the obvious, but it’s kind of a big deal. I’m not nervous, though. I mean, my mouth is the Sahara Desert, and my heart has decided to take up residence in my throat, but that’s totally okay. I’ve got this.

At least, that’s what I tell myself until my cell phone vibrates in my pocket, and I jolt, dropping my microphone. It falls to the ground with a thump and issues a brief squeal of feedback, like it’s crying about its rough treatment, before rolling under the wooden podium.

Blushing, I get on my hands and knees to fetch it, hoping no one’s noticed. I’m not that lucky. When I pop back up, Patrick, my least favorite co-resident, is sneer smirking at me in his usual mean-spirited way. Jerk.

I glare back and wrestle the phone from my long white lab coat pocket.

The text is from a number I don’t recognize.

The image, on the other hand, I recognize immediately. It’s the iconic Las Vegas sign. The one you see when you first drive into town, right before you reach the southern end of the neon-lit Strip. “Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada,” it proclaims in blood-red lettering.

That’s odd.

I grew up in Las Vegas, but everyone I knew there is either dead or has moved on. There’s no message to explain who sent the picture or why.

A chill shivers through me, the icy fingers of my past walking down my spine.

There’s a subtle tremor in my hand as I rub my temple, trying to soothe the onset of a stress headache.

“Everything okay, Tiffany?” asks a light feminine voice. It’s Melanie, one of my fellow radiology residents. Kind blue eyes, set in a pretty heart-shaped face, staring at me with a hint of concern.

“What? Yeah. I’m fine.” I rearrange my face until it’s blank and pleasing.

Melanie doesn’t look like she’s buying the act. Skeptical, she raises one eyebrow. “Really?”

“Okay, not fine,” I admit. “I need to nail this lecture. Hopefully, it’ll earn me that Resident of the Month award.”

I’ve wanted that certificate, with its shiny gold seal, since I first started working here over three years ago. It’s physical proof that I’ve transformed. That I’m a success.

More importantly, I need the certificate for the thousand dollars bonus money that comes along with it. I’ve going to give this same presentation at an important medical conference in a couple of months. It’s an honor to be asked to speak there, one not usually given to residents. That money will let me stay at the swanky hotel at Disney World, where the conference is being held, rather than the cheap motel thirty miles down the road.

“Hey, don’t worry. You’ll do great.” Melanie squeezes my arm gently. Usually, I don’t like people touching me, but I tolerate her. “You’re one of the best residents in this hospital. I bet they’ve already printed your name on that certificate.”

“Thanks. I appreciate it.” I mean it. Even though we only spend time together in the hospital, Melanie is the closest thing to a friend I have. Knowing there will be at least one sympathetic face in the crowd today is a comfort.

With a small wave and a final “Good luck,” she leaves to find a seat.

Three minutes until the lecture begins. I double-check that the image on my laptop projects onto the large screen behind me.

“Renal Cell Carcinoma, a case study,” it reads.

Anxious, I straighten my long white lab coat, adjusting it to ensure my name tag is clearly displayed. Dr. Tiffany Hart, Radiology

As the last of the audience settles into their seats, I scan the crowd.

So many familiar faces.

So many people to impress.

Melanie is in the second row, next to our boss, Dr. Washburn. A man sits on the other side of Dr. Washburn, a stranger dressed in a navy suit with a red tie. He’s talking with my residency director, their heads bent together and expressions serious.

The man is handsome, like the holy smokes he’s hot type of good-looking that makes women everywhere do a double take. He’s got ruffled brown hair, dark straight brows, and a strong jaw.

His gaze flicks up to mine, then pauses and holds for a long second before he turns his attention back to Dr. Washburn. His eyes are stunning, an unusually light color, warm amber like a glass of whiskey when the sunlight filters through it.

Never seen him before. I’d remember a face like that.

One minute until my lecture starts. A last glance at the strange message as I try unsuccessfully to solve its riddle. With a sigh, I mute my phone and shove it deep into my pocket. It’s time to focus on the task in front of me. I won’t think of the text again until after my presentation is done.

No problem. I’m good at compartmentalizing.

I’ve had lots of practice.
